FAQ

Economic calendar questions

What is an economic calendar?

An economic calendar lists scheduled government and industry reports, like inflation (CPI), the jobs report and Federal Reserve decisions, with the time each one is released. Traders use it to know when markets are likely to move sharply.

What do high, medium and low impact mean?

Impact is how much a report usually moves the markets. High-impact reports like CPI, the jobs report (Non-Farm Payrolls) and Fed rate decisions often cause big, fast moves in stocks, futures, bonds and the dollar. Use the "High-impact only" switch to see just those.

What time are reports released?

All times on this calendar are US Eastern Time (ET). Many major US reports come out at 8:30 AM ET, before the stock market opens at 9:30 AM ET. Fed rate decisions are usually at 2:00 PM ET.

What are "forecast" and "previous"?

Forecast is what economists expect the report to show. Previous is last period's result. Markets often react to the gap between the actual number and the forecast, more than to the number itself.

When is the next CPI report?

CPI (the Consumer Price Index) is released once a month, usually around the middle of the month at 8:30 AM ET. When it's scheduled this week or next, it appears on the calendar above with its forecast and previous value.

Where does the data come from?

Release times, forecasts and previous values come from the Forex Factory economic calendar and are refreshed every 30 minutes. Schedules occasionally change, so confirm important releases before trading.

Is this economic calendar free?

Yes, it's free and you don't need an account. It's made by TraderMemo, a simple trading journal. Inside the journal, the Events tab shows this calendar next to the week's earnings, so you can see how you trade on news days.
